Sunriver Fire and Rescue is currently recruiting for the position of Reserve Firefighter. This position serves in the Operations Division of the department and provides service in the areas of emergency medical response, fire suppression, fire prevention, rescue and public assistance.
Reserve Firefighters are compensated and the department provides all necessary equipment. Typically, reserves work a minimum of five 24-hour shifts and work under the supervision of the shift officer and other full-time fire staff.
Applicants are not required to have completed a basic fire academy or EMT/Paramedic certification; however any completed fire or medical training is desirable. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment, meet department background requirements, possess a valid Oregon Driver’s License and have a high school diploma.
Applications will be reviewed in mid-February 2010 with those most qualified proceeding onto the testing process in February. The testing and interview process will include a written examination (scheduled for February 19 at 6:00pm), physical agility testing and interviews (scheduled for February 20 at 8:00am). The in-house reserve academy is anticipated to begin shortly after the testing process and will have strict attendance policies throughout the academy.
The ideal candidate is a motivated individual who will embrace the department’s philosophy of service beyond expectation. Firefighters work in a team environment that requires excellent interpersonal skills, extreme physical exertion, superior decision making skills and the ability to effectively write, read and communicate with department staff as well as members of the community.
